David Selbys Lincoln connection!
Posted in Latest News on 01/12/2012 03:34 am by adminNo one has portrayed Abraham Lincoln on screen better than the legendary actor, David Selby. The senior actor, who is known for Arthur Foster’s role from Tell Me You Love Me episodes on television, is also a huge figure in the world of theatre.

The theatre circuit in Washington D.C. and more Ford’s theatre remembers David Selby for his outstanding portrayal of Lincoln in James Still’s The Heavens Are Hung In Black – a play that was directed by Stephen Rayne for the same theatre house in February, 2009.
Three years later, Selby is ready to perform Lincoln’s role once again in Richard Hellesen’s Necessary Sacrifices – a play directed by Jennifer L.Nelson for Ford’s Theatre.
The play sheds light on confrontations in between Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass during a crisis situation for the country. Lincoln is motivated to abolish slavery, and is pumped by Frederick’s belief towards creating a society, true to the Declaration of Independence to each and every word.
The play will be on from January 20 to February 12, though it officially opens on January 25, 2012. The world premier of this play will mark the inauguration of the Center for Education and Leadership with a gallery providing valuable insights into the late president’s life, works and his legacy.
Hellsen’s play will feature David Emerson, one of David’s Co-actors from The Heavens Are Hung In Black , in the character of Frederick Douglass.
So, the cast speaks for itself, and I guess guarantees the play to be one that will end up getting enlisted on Ford’s list of best in-house performances.
Well, I can say that with that kind of conviction for Hellsen is no amateur, when it comes to theatre. In the past, he has already delivered brilliance to the theatre house with unforgettable plays like The Road from Appomattox, Investigation: Detective McDevitt, and One Destiny.
