The show from its very beginning had come into news for wrong reasons. This helped the show gain some early publicity. The show was targeted for its vulgarity. Some scenes in the show depicted sexual intercourse, masturbation, oral sex and ejaculation which appeared quite realistic. The show had to face the music for all this. The critics called this unsuitable for being shown on TV. No one related to the show was able to clarify it. Even HBO on which the show was broadcast failed to comment on all this.

Finally the creator of the show, Cynthia Mort was the one who stated that all the intercourse was simulated. This some what pacified the controversies. Even the actress Michelle Borth, who played Jamie in Tell Me You Love Me commented saying that, “we tried to do this as authentic as possible, but we were not having sex.” Though her scenes were the most explicit ones.
